A GUIDE TO PROPER CARE &
TRAINING OF DOGS - House training
|
The house training for your pup should start immediately you take him into
your house. If he is taken out regularly at frequent intervals, he will
soon learn to relieve himself outside. Also, you can look out for signs
which indicate that he is getting ready to relieve himself. If he is to
walk around the floor in circles, sits or whines at the door or voluntarily
gives you the "look"- sustained eye contact with a slightly anxious expression
- it is time to take your dog outside.
When your puppy has finished eliminating, quietly praise him & bring
him back inside. He'll soon connect eliminating outdoors with praise, and
he will be anxious to please you.
If he is to accidentally mess up the inside, DO NOT raise your voice,
spank your pup. He's too young to connect your reprimands with his mess.
When to take your pup out
-
First thing in the morning - which is shortly after sunrise for most pups
-
Right after his naps
-
Upon returning home to a puppy that has been left alone
-
Right after meals
-
Last thing in the night, before you retire
-
As soon as your pup gives you the "look"
