Chennai, a sea-side city is the capital of Tamilnadu and the gate-way to South India. It has an area of 172 sq kms. and is the largest among southern cities. There are several buildings in the Indo-saracenic style built by the British most of them along the Marina Beach Road to the modern buildings, There are several towering temples, churches.

Chennai was recognized by the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in 2017 for its rich musical tradition. This inclusion was a significant international acknowledgment of the city's cultural contribution to music. It joined other Indian cities like Jaipur (Crafts and Folk Art) and Varanasi (Music) on the list.
