It has an area of 172 sq kms. and is the largest among southern cities.

most of them along the Marina Beach Road to the modern buildings,

Chennai was recognized by the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in 2017 for its rich musical tradition.
This inclusion was a significant international acknowledgment of the
city's cultural contribution to music. It joined other Indian cities
like Jaipur (Crafts and Folk Art) and Varanasi (Music) on the list.
